In Conclusion.......

Despite the type of learning settting that a learner should decide to pursue, whether it be asynchronous or synchronous, participating and collaboration are key ingredients in the success of any learner's education. There is strong arguments in the academic world that promote small group collaboration among online courses because it has shown to enhance the learning experience. Literature has shown a significant relationship between participation in learning experiences and a deeper learning in addition to a better development of learning and teamwork skills (Brindley, 2009). Collaboration when incorporated in learning has also shown to increase a sense of community with the learner's peers which results in a better learning satisfaction and retention of the information being learned.

Instructors have the responsibility to not only encourage and foster a learning environment that is open and fair to all students but also to encourage an environment that incorporates collaboration and participation and ensure that all students are on track with their own learning and success.
